A student from NLSI Lui Kwok Pat Fong College, a participating school of the “IT Innovation Lab in Secondary Schools” programme, took part in the 2021 ROBOFEST HK – BottleSumo Time Trial held in April 2021 and won the 2nd Runner-up title and the Best Design award. A team of students from the same school participated in the 2021 National Youth Drone Challenge (Hong Kong) held on 9 July 2021 and won the Merit Award in two events, the Manual Control Three-dimensional Maze Escape Game and the Swarm Programming Obstacle Course.

About the Competitions

ROBOFEST is hosted by Lawrence Technological University in Southfield. Since 1999, over 29 000 students from about 30 countries have taken part in it. ROBOFEST aims to, through competitions, cultivate youngsters’ interest in STEM, enhance their problem solving abilities and prepare them for pursuing a career in IT or research sector. To be the winner of the BottleSumo Time Trial, the participant’s robot must be the fastest one to locate a 2 litre bottle and pushes it off the ring.

The 2021 National Youth Drone Challenge (Hong Kong) was a regional competition of the Educational Drone Event, China. The national competition was organised by Chinese Society of Aeronautics and Astronauts. The Hong Kong competition, organised by ASK Idea (Hong Kong) Limited, was held on 9 July 2021. Each of the 50 participating secondary schools sent a three-student team to participate in the competition. The competition included two compulsory events, the Manual Control Three-dimensional Maze Escape Game and the Swarm Programming Obstacle Course, as well as an optional event, the Maze Exploration Mission.
