Four S6 Enriched IT Class students of the Y.W.C.A. Hioe Tjo Yoeng College, a partner school of the “Enriched IT Programme in Secondary Schools”, won the “1 Million HKD Scholarship Computer Science Competition for High School Students” co-organised by the Association of I.T. Leaders in Education (AiTLE) and the William Jessup University (WJU) of California in the U.S.A. on 26 October 2019. The whole team has been awarded a scholarship of one million dollars and granted the conditional offer for the computer science degree program of WJU.

The winning entry CookMate is a mobile app that makes use of database and AI recognition technology to enrich cooking experience. First of all, information of ingredients purchased is inputted into the CookMate’s fridge database. Before cooking, simply select ingredients from the database and CookMate will search for matching recipes from the recipe database. With a little modification, CookMate can even provide tailor-made recipes for patients with food allergy and bodybuilders.

The winning S6 students include: LUNG Tin-hang, Jacky HO, YAU Chun-yiu and YEUNG Tsz-yau.

“AiTLE & William Jessup University (WJU): 1 Million HKD Scholarship Computer Science Competition for High School Students” requires high school students in Hong Kong and Macau to develop innovative and entrepreneurial mobile apps. The competition is co-organised by the AiTLE and the WJU, while the U.S. Consulate General Hong Kong & Macau, the Inno Space and the Hong Kong Education City provide students with resources to convert their ideas into reality.
